Howdy! Flip Horizontal is an art help server that focuses primarily on constructive feedback for works already in progress. We're not art critics, but some of us know how to draw knees and would like to share this secret knowledge.
Please note that this server is NEW and the rules may need to flex as we go. It's not always easy to know what you're gonna need a rule for. We do our best.
If the server becomes too stressful to run, it may be closed without warning and without being passed on. That's just how it is, sorry folks! Health first.

What we can maybe do:
- Red line sketches so we can all get better at drawing arms.
- Make helpful suggestions about composition and color blending.
- Help you understand what a tangent is.
- Try to figure out cats and horses together.

What we can't do:
- Help you with things that aren't directly related to drawing. So, things like picking a theme song for your fanfic, writing your comic script, etc. We're not here for that.
Rules
(Read them before joining.)
(Read them before joining.)
1. 18+ only.
A lot of thought went into this. We have nothing against younger folks and would love to see all of you when you turn 18, but felt this was the most realistic option for the sanity of server staff.
2. No politics, religious discussion, shitty world news, etc.
We all know the world is currently on fire. Don't use the server as a soap box to angrily discuss social issues, political issues, post emergency messages/PSAs, celebrity obituaries, etc.
3. Keep it PG-13.
Art or depictions of scenes that contain highly detailed injuries, include self-harm, or appear to glorify child abuse, sexual abuse, etc are forbidden. There is no way for us to know the context of these situations at a glance and so have chosen not to allow them.
5. No venting or griefing.
Keep conversation positive and give folks space. We're all living shitty lives- that's why we're on the internet.
6. Give folks space.
7. Don't @ ping other guests.
Unless they've told you they're okay with it, don't do it. Some people like it, some don't.
8. Media (Non-art) Rules
You can post images/embed links in some chats. However, there are special rules.
9. Art Rules
All skill levels are welcome, even those who don't draw. It doesn't take a skilled artist to give good feedback.
We'll try to give the best advice we can, but it's up to the artist to improve and sometimes the best answer is 'hit the books and practice'. Getting huffy or aggressive with guests won't get you there faster and only spreads frustration. Don't!
11. The Oasis
The Oasis is an invite only area set aside for staff and a moderate selection of artists and guests. We are up front about this. It is not with the intent of excluding others. Sometimes folks just need a minute.
If you feel you can't handle the existence of such a place, we are not the server for you.
12. Check the pins in each chat!
Some chats are used differently than others. If you're not sure how to find pins or aren't sure what a chat is for, feel free to ask for help!
(Note, it's not a big deal if you post in the wrong area. It happens!).
Some chats may have their own sub-pages here in the future, but for now we're going with pins to save time.
13. Check #announcements once in a while for rule changes and updates.
Tweaks and rewrites will not always be announced, but we try to point out the big dogs. (Most of these rules are common sense and tweaks to appease the internet beast aren't really worth an announcement.)

- Gore that ranges from light, to moderate to camp is okay, but something akin to shock images is not. When in doubt use the spoiler tags (but note that this is not a work around to post whatever).
- Cussing is okay, but avoid hateful/hurtful terms. (Ex: Calling something gay or retarded). Derogatory terms akin to trap, hermaphrodite, etc should be avoided. The c-word should also be avoided. (We know its casual in Britain- but it's a very different story in the USA.)
- You don't gotta love your neighbor, just tolerate them. Don't pick fights, incessantly one up, antagonize or shame others for their harmless interests. Being rude to look cool is still just being rude.
- You can call your friend an asshat, just be sure they're okay with it.
5. No venting or griefing.
Keep conversation positive and give folks space. We're all living shitty lives- that's why we're on the internet.
- Don't use the server to vent about personal problems or rant about life. It's okay to say you had a bad day once in a while, but don't use us as a place to dump, or as a crutch for starting/stealing conversation.
- Passive aggression directed at other guests, fishing for attention (saying something to get attention/get a reaction/rile guests), saying things for shock value, putting yourself down or playing the victim to get a reaction is a huge no-no.
6. Give folks space.
- If someone asks you to leave them alone, let them be.
- Never use the server as a means to stalk another guest for attention. If you're ruining someone else's experience and not respecting their space, then that's not cool, and you will be kicked for it.
7. Don't @ ping other guests.
Unless they've told you they're okay with it, don't do it. Some people like it, some don't.
8. Media (Non-art) Rules
You can post images/embed links in some chats. However, there are special rules.
- Be sensible. If you aren't sure how it will be received (like a giant spider or 'cursed image'), spoiler tag it so it doesn't preview. Omitting previews does not mean you can post whatever you happen by on the internet.
Common examples of what not to post: Political humor, distasteful humor (fat jokes, gay jokes, etc), gross out or shock images, extreme body horror (if it's more extreme than a Saturday morning cartoon, don't post it.) etc.
Sometimes admin have to step in and say 'no' to things that aren't listed. Don't argue. - No selfies (pictures of yourself). Sorry y'all, they're fun but they're not for this server. Pet photos are fine.
9. Art Rules
All skill levels are welcome, even those who don't draw. It doesn't take a skilled artist to give good feedback.
- Guests who show an unwillingness to receive constructive feedback or repeatedly and unhelpfully 'send it back' with excuses/moaning will be booted.
- Do not say something is 'bad'. That's not helpful. It's better to offer a suggestion on how to make it better.
- This server is for art made my you. Avoid things like dollmaker edits/sprite recolors, bases, etc.

14. Moderators and you.
We know, it's a real brick, but it saves staff a lot of misery.

Do not PM moderators with complaints or argue with them.
Chewing staff out shouldn't fly in retail, and it doesn't fly here!

- If you have a suggestion for the server or would like to see something changed, drop it in #server-feedback. However, bare in mind that we cannot satisfy the requests of all, and sometimes changes depend on the amount of complaints/requests received over time.
- If you feel there is something that needs to be brought to a moderator's attention, such as a problem guest or post, take a screenshot of it and send it in a DM to a mod. NO TEXT! Just the screenshot. If we need context or an explanation we will ask. You may need to friend them to do so.
- Do not send moderators messages on off-sites. Using our off-site accounts to rant or complain is grounds for an instant ban.
- Do not contact the mods in order to rant about the server/micro-manage mod decisions. That is not what we're here for, we have lives and actual paying jobs outside of this discord server.
- Let the moderators do their job. Don't worry about what Billy and Sally are doing, that's our job. It's okay to politely nudge people in the right direction, but don't make a case of it.
- Mod decisions are made by a panel of moderators, not one person. Their validity cannot be argued with one person.
- Please pick server appropriate names. If it's questionable a mod may change it.
- We're tired old people who run this server in our off time after work, and can't cover every possible nuance of rules/etiquette in one list. Sometimes somebody throws us a curve ball and we try to make the best decision we can under the circumstances. Sometimes we will bring up things that aren't addressed directly here. Our server is a machine, and we're doing our best to keep it oiled. Don't argue.
- Rules are rules. Staff doesn't make special exemptions for anyone, no matter what their relationship off or before the server might be. (Followers, commissioners, family, friends, etc.)
- In addition to this, if you are banned from an affiliate server of ours (such as Justice League Unlimited or Spicy Cats), you may be banned from Flip, too. There's no need for staff to chase their tail in the same circle twice.
Moderator warnings may be given in open server space or by PM. Meaning that when the moderators have something that needs to be said, they might not take it to PMs. This is not to embarrass or demean the person being spoken to, it's because of the way discord's message system is set up. Users either accept PMs, or they don't. Friending someone to let them know they're being banned would be weird. We frequently use @pings when pointing out rules or doing maintenance. It's an imperfect system. We try. If you're not okay with that, we're not the server for you.
15. The final rule is a magic trick.
When you join the server, let us know in #guest-room that you are 18+ and have read the rules. You will not be able to view the majority of the chats until you do.
